A Model of
Mind/Body Disease Development
Usually when we become
ill, it is because our immune systems have been compromised. Often
there has been a clustering of stressors 6-24 months prior to this.
A cluster of stressors may be more significant than one large one.
It may seem that there is a problem/s from which there is no
escape. This can lead to:
Depression and
Despair.
We all cope with
stressors in a different way. The stressors may seem to pose
unbelievable problems that we can’t deal with. This causes
changes in the:
Hypothalamus and the Pituitary Gland.
The part of
the brain that responds to emotional stress also controls
the immune system, and regulates the pituitary gland, which
also controls the immune system. This results in a hormonal
imbalance, and affects the whole endocrine system, allowing
disease, and abnormal cells (as in cancer) to increase.
The Immune
System
The immune
system in a healthy individual is our natural defense
against illness and is very powerful and effective. It is
composed of several kind of cells designed to attack and
destroy foreign substances. When certain types of stressors
compromise the immune system, the body’s normal defenses
become suppressed providing optimal conditions for serious
diseases and cancers to start and flourish.
Reversing the cycle
By providing
psychological interventions of how we see our problems and
ourselves. This creates:
Hope and
Anticipation.
Hope and
anticipation assist in allowing the belief that there is an
opportunity for recovery. This affects the:
Limbic System
This part of
the brain records the altered feelings of hope and
anticipation, and passes them on to the:
Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland.
Messages of
hope sent from the limbic system are sent on to the
pituitary (the master gland) and this alerts the whole
endocrine system. This helps to restore hormonal balance
and strengthens the immune system.
The Immune
System.
When the
immune system is strengthened, it can again attack and
destroy foreign substances and abnormal cells, as
the body’s defenses mobilize.
How
Can This be Accomplished?
Energy work, guided
visualizations, and hypnotherapy are some of the modalities that
can strengthen your immune system to overcome diseases in a holistic
way, allowing your body, mind, spirit to self-heal.
Remember, that
complementary or alternative health care is never meant to replace
traditional medicine. It is meant to Complement traditional
medicine and health care.
